Who works out the bills on My Council Tax Bill

Radif Partners

Independent publisher of council tax bill calculators for England, Wales and Scotland

My Council Tax Bill is published by Radif Partners, a company that builds free calculators on public rules and public data. This one is for anyone who pays, or is about to pay, council tax in England, Wales or Scotland: someone moving to a new area, a person who has started living alone, a student house, a family with an annex, the owner of a holiday cottage or of a flat that has stood empty.

Why this site exists

Search for a council tax figure and the first result is GOV.UK, which explains the bands and then sends you to your council for the amount. Councils publish their own band table and nothing else. The private sites that rank next were, in October 2026, either a year behind (a calculator labelled 2026-27 whose worked example still used the 2025-26 rate), years behind (a second homes guide last updated in November 2024, with no calculation), or a way to sell a property report or an appeal pack for £14.99 to £59.99. None of them gave the bill a household actually receives once the single person discount, an exemption or a premium is applied.

So this site does better than the first Google result because it works out the real 2026/27 bill of a home in each of the 350 councils of England, Wales and Scotland, band by band, with the single person discount, exemptions, the Disabled Band Reduction, the second and empty homes premiums and Scottish Water, from the official tables published in March 2026.

Where the numbers come from

Council figures are generated by a script from the spreadsheets of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, the Welsh Government and the Scottish Government; national rules sit in one parameter file, each with the page it was read on. The file cites 40 official pages, all read on 19 October 2026. The engine is tested against every English band charge in Table 9 and against the 2026 to 2027 bill table of a Scottish council. The method page lists each rule and what is left out.

What we are not

We are not a council, the Valuation Office Agency, a Scottish assessor or an adviser. We cannot change your band, give you a discount or see your account. The bill your council sends is the one you pay: it uses your own parish or community council, local decisions on premiums and discounts, and any Council Tax Reduction you receive.

How the site is paid for

It is free and needs no account or email. We sell no report, appeal service, letting service or mortgage, take no commission and link to no firm that does. If advertising is added one day, it will never sit above a calculator, and it cannot use what you type because nothing you type leaves your browser.

Tell us when a figure is wrong

Write to contact@mycounciltaxbill.co.uk with the council, the band and the figure on your notice. The editorial policy explains how a correction is made. The site has 48 indexed pages; the full list is in the footer.
